So I would like to address those things that were brought up. First there was a comment left about if there should or should not be an Ubar in Treve. Most references I have found lists Treve as having an Administrator. Though it could be assumed, if anyone could make war on Treve, Treve would choose an Ubar, like any other city. Though that is just a guess. Our AOLGor perception of the books is skewed, so many things are not played correctly (Port Kar's Admirals being one example).

Secondly, someone brought up, that I was saying that anyone can just meander up and challenge an Administrator or Ubar, for any such reason. I would like to say, no. That's not what I was saying. Allow me to clarify. Any warrior can challenge any other warrior, on a basis of honor, respect, position, etc. Challenges are not entered or made lightly (theoretically). The key to this is the challenge must have basis. You cannot challenge someone for wearing the wrong shoes. You can challenge someone for being dishonorable. It is judged on a case by case basis. Now to be an Administrator is to be a peace-time leader. ANY MALE can be an Administrator. From Physician on down. Administrators are removed by a legal action for legal wrong-doing or ineffectiveness. Ubars MUST be warriors. They have absolute power in war-time. But, a Warrior can be challenged by another warrior. In addition, Ubars must step down when the time of war is over. Any Ubar who does not, is often overthrown by his warriors.

Thirdly, I got an email from Alain Lassiter that I would like to respond too.

The Codes of the Warrior.

A while back there was an issue with a Warrior being brought before the Caste of Warriors for trial. His charges included violations of the codes. It was said that he violated one or more codes of the Warriors and should be removed from his Caste and his position with the Caste. Several numbered "Aphorisms" were listed as the various codes that he had broken.

It would make sense, if you are going to charge someone have a list of the supposed crimes they committed right? However the fault was that there is only one Aphorism listed out by number in the books. The 97th Aphorism, which appears in Book 24 Vagabonds of Gor.
In all 25 books there are only 2 times the word "Aphorism" is used. Both are in Vagabonds, both are in the same chapter and same page.

(The below is the property of John Norman all rights reserved to him, reproduced for editorial comment only.)
“Are you of the Warriors?” asked Labienus.
“Yes,” I said.
“Hear,” said Labienus to his men. “He is of the Warriors.”
“He says he is,” said a fellow, glumly.
“What is the 97th Aphorism in the Codes?” inquired Labienus.
“My scrolls may not be those of Ar,” I said. To be sure, the scrolls should be, at least among the high cities, in virtue of conventions held at the Sardar Fairs, particularly the Fair of En’Kara, much in agreement.
“Will you speak?” asked Labienus.
“Remove the female,” I said.
“He is a Warrior,” said one of the men.
One of the men lifted the bound Ina in his arms, one hand behind the back of her knees, and the other behind her back, and carried her from where we were gathered. In a few moments he returned.
“The female is now out of earshot?” inquired Labienus, staring ahead.
“Yes,” said the fellow, “and she will stay where I left her, on her back, as I tied her hair about the base of a stout shrub.”
“The 97th Aphorism in the Codes I was taught,” I said, “is in the form of a riddle: “What is invisible but more beautiful than diamonds?”
“And the answer?” inquired Labienus.
“That which is silent but deafens thunder.”
The men regarded one another.
“And what is that?” asked Labienus.
“The same,” said I, “as that which depresses no scale but is weightier than gold.”
“And what is that?” asked Labienus.
“Honor,” I said.
“He is of the Warriors,” said a man. Plenius turned away, stricken.
“But I have, in my time,” I said, “betrayed such codes.” Plenius turned back, to regard me, a strange expression on his face.
“I think it is easy enough to do,” I said.
“Yes,” smiled Labienus. “I think that we all, here and there, in our time, have managed that.”
“You are very kind,” I said.

The above, is the ONLY place in the books where an Aphorism of the codes is listed. The ONLY place. Once more.. The Only Place.

So anyone who claims to have a website, or know 100 Aphorisms of the codes, has made them up. They are perhaps Gorean flavored, or intended to be Gorean, but they are not Gorean, nor are many of them of the codes known from the books of Gor. Perhaps some day John Norman will produce a "Compendium" of Gor, an official, guidebook to the setting and characters. Inclusive of the Codes of the Warriors, the Aphorisms, the codes of various castes, the little details that will fill in the cracks we have now on AOLGOR; however until that time, all we have to go on for what IS Gorean and what is NOT, is the 25 published Books of Gor by John Norman.

These books, I do not believe were ever meant for the scrutiny of a roleplaying world. John Norman built himself a world, much like other writers have done before him and after him, but he left holes in it. We have an incomplete Gorean Language, an incomplete understanding of medical technology, ect. I have found the exact same listing of the aphorisms on no less than four other webpages. Someone more diligent and wiser than I must have come up with the 100 aphorisms, and so far as I can tell, a great number of them have quotes to back them up.

"What is it to be a warrior? It is to keep the codes. Nothing else matters." (Beasts of Gor, p.340)

"One does not speak to a slave of the codes" (Beasts of Gor, p.340)

Now I can argue the merits of the 100 Aphorisms with you, until we are both blue in the face. You will say, "because they are not in the books they do not exist, therefore they are not Gorean." And I will return with, "much of what we do not do is listed in the books. How many have rped their character's pilgrimage to the Sadar? How many have rped their stabilization? How many women are branded and then freed? These people who have not or have ever been guilty of not staying true to the books 100% in all things, are therefore not Gorean, and able to be ignored. And if you support their rp choices, you are not Gorean, therefore you should be ignored."

One of the tandamount problems with AOLGor, is that there are gaps in John Norman's world. And we as muns cannot agree on how best to fill those gaps, so we each take our stands and lead off in our own way, and ignore any other way of thinking. I, for one, believe the 100 Aphorisms to be Gorean. They embody what I think defines a warrior, they fill in the gap. I did not write them, but I respect the person who had the wisdom to sit and write them. You don't have to agree with me, and you can continue along your way. But I would challenge you to think on this. What if we did agree? What if there was a set listing of all the gaps in John Norman's writings filled? Is this a possibility? Can we as muns sit down like adults and work out these things and compromise? Or are our muns so fragmented that the thought of submitting to another's ideas to be silly?

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. I am taking any sort of editorials on Gorean roleplay, logs of improper Gorean play, crossing, or un-Gorean characters of play)

***Please, visit the TMOG Resource Site and the Gorean Times the links are on the right hand sidebar of the paper.***

***If you wish to read older Articles, please click on the "Grave News" link on the sidebar***

***If you like what you've read, spread The Grave News. But the goings on in Treve have once again caught my attention. It seems their Ubar was recently challenged for his position. This is not uncommon in Treve. They switch Ubars more often than most people change underwear in a month. But this one is a special case and I just want to go over it. A lesson for anyone playing a warrior.

I would first like to go off topic to address one thing. I have been receiving alot of IM logs and room logs, and while I will not get into their OOC non-sense. The characters of Firenza of Treve and Melania of Treve need a serious attitude adjustment. Their mouths (Or the the mouths of their NPC Guards) seem to have no limits, including spouting and thought RPing off such jewels as:

Firenza of Treve: She got unceremoniously yanked from her kneel and hauledback away from the action. Travis would catch hold of Melania's arm as welland lead her gently back to his sister. With that accomplished, he went tojoin Seravok at his
Firenza of Treve: side, fully ready to fight in the place of his Ubar whichwas, of course, the man's right as ruler of this city. It was stupid tochallenge a man who commanded MANY men on his home turf. His eyes narrowedfaintly on Kriger and then
Firenza of Treve: he smoked. "Fool." There. Outright. [d]
Melania of Treve: You fat f*cken swine..::remembering now Warn's adjectivesthat best describes this man::: You are not fit to tend tarsks ::and thereher impulsive tongue let loose..but not before Travis caught hold of her armand walked her to
Melania of Treve: Firenza::

...and...

Firenza of Treve: "Do the words of a mere woman affect you so...warrior?"Now that...pissed her off.
Firenza of Treve: "She is free. She can speak her own mind."

Ah-ha, wrong. A woman can speak her mind, all she wants to. Until a man informs her to shut her mouth. This is a male dominated society. If a man tells a woman to shut up, she better, or risk a collar.

Now back on subject. Myk of Treve (Ubar) was challenged by Kriger avHelvete to canjellne. Myk of Treve allowed WarnTheDeviI to fight for him in the challenge. Well as it goes, WarntheDevil won a very close DM, leading to Kriger's death. So far as i know Kriger is not challenging the DM and the scoring is correct. What I plan to address is Myk of Treve's assigning another Warrior to fight for him. Consider the following Warrior codes:

-21st Aphorism of the Codes-
To touch a Warrior without his permission is canjellne. To draw a weapon against a Warrior is canjellne. To misuse the property of a Warrior without recompense is canjellne. Canjellne is the Rite of Challenge. Woe be it to any who so challenges a Warrior!

-22nd Aphorism of the Codes-
A Warrior meets the challenges of those who do not share his caste in the manner he sees fit. Such a challenge may be so met in any fashion, provided it is not ignored.

-23rd Aphorism of the Codes-
A Warrior may respond to the rightful challenge of another Warrior in one of two ways: He may yield all, or he may answer with steel. Woe be it to any who yields all! A collar of iron awaits him one day.

These are three codes that apply to this chalenge. Kriger was a warrior, his challenge was rightful. Myk of Treve had only two responses. Yeild his seat as Ubar or answer with his steel. He choose neither path. He had another warrior fight for him. They justify it with the following arguement:

Firenza of Treve: [Um. Wrong. The Ubarate rights extend past those of amere warrior. And, for the record? ALL Ubars were of the Red Caste, since itwas a war-time or battle-time position.]

The Ubarate rights extend past those of a "mere warrior." Must they be reminded that to be a Warrior is to be one of the High Castes? Must they be reminded that without that caste the man would be NOTHING?!? How can a Warrior be above his own codes? Observe these codes:

-17th Aphorism of the Codes-
There is a time for Ubars, and there is a time when Ubars must also bow. Let no Ubar stand longer than his city has need of him.

-20th Aphorism of the Codes-
No Warrior can be of the Warriors who lives not the Codes of his caste.

If this man chooses not to follow by his codes for whatever ill-conceived reason, then he is not a Warrior, and by Firenza's own admission, NOT the Ubar.

Just something to dwell on. I congratulate however the two who did participate in the DM. They are not easy things to face and many would go running from them. You have played you characters well in that respect.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. The first one covers Disease on Gor. You may or may not have seen people running speaking of a Gorean Pox that has been brought over by an uncareful acquisition ship. Here is an example of the play.

Emma Blackhawk: oh and don't forget Bosk report to the clinic
Xdeliciousdollx: :::Her heart would pound within her chest, feeling loud enough to announce a holiday parade. The girl watched on with wide eye morbid curiosity sprinkled with a healthy sense of fear.:::
Krayton Storm: ::Well she didnt snap at him. What was she up too? Still holding the goad now oposite from where she would have access to it he touched her feathers and in a preening motion pulled out some lice from her feathers::;
Azusenna: ::When she arrived she spotted the two tarns and softly groaned, moving towards the treeline instead, moving behind a tree and took a lean against it. She looked to those gathered before they setled on Bosk. Since she was
Bosk of KoRoBa: "Why should I report to teh clinic?"
Azusenna: appropriately dressed, he may not even recognize her so she turned away to look around her and settle her gaze on the majestic beasts ::
Winged Avalanche: tips her head for his preening fingers
Emma Blackhawk: pox has come to Gor wiith an aquisitionBosk of KoRoBa: "And this affects me how?"
Emma Blackhawk: the City od Kagash is temporarily banned
Emma Blackhawk: if you don't get the vaccine you may die a terrible death
Winged Avalanche: chirrs and chirps softlyEmma Blackhawk: your choice warrior
Bosk of KoRoBa: ::huffs::
Emma Blackhawk: you can't fight it with a sword
Emma Blackhawk: ::she grinned:;
Emma Blackhawk: i can fight it
Bosk of KoRoBa: "I will come by the clinic just so you will get the pleasure of sticking me with a needle"

Later it continues...

Emma Blackhawk: ::she looked to the Huntress and admired her strength::
Xdeliciousdollx: ::brushes off black screen of death to return:::
Seravok Rhayn: Severance 8/20; Ava: 7/20; Seravok 4/20; Rage 2/20
Bosk of KoRoBa: "Yes"Emma Blackhawk: i was wondering has the news reached the forest dwellers
Emma Blackhawk: about the pox vaccine
Krayton Storm: not letting the inturder go at least unharmed Ava again moves to the tarns neck with her talons
Seravok Rhayn: err... Ava still 5/20
OnlineHost: Krayton Storm rolled 2 25-sided dice: 18 20
XvRogueJustice: Eyes drifted Emma. " I am not of the Forest, but our own Healer has been informed"
Krayton Storm: :::Rage seeing her moves again back to the rider his speed not as fast but affective takes his talongs to his bow hand
OnlineHost: Krayton Storm rolled 2 25-sided dice: 10 19
Emma Blackhawk: I'm sorry i meant no insult

Let's take a look at this Gorean Pox. And I pull all of my information from the following link from Luther's Scrolls. http://www.geocities.com/delphius2002/id32.htm.

It was mentioned in the log that the pox came to Gor via and acquisition ship. This is wrong due to the following facts. First, the Gorean Physician's Caste has immensely advanced immunology reasearch and with the exception of a few exceptionally bad GOREAN diseases (such as: Dar-Kosis and the Bazi Plague) all other diseases have bee eliminated. This means that the slavers who went to earth on the acquisition ship, could not have become sick from the "pox." Secondly, the barbarians that came with them could not have been effected. First because they would be screened for such things and secondly once on the acquisition ship they would be given same treatments the Goreans are given, which makes them immune to a disease or would fight off any exsisting ones.

And anyone who says that this "Gorean Pox" would beat the medicine off the Physician's caste, I ask you this. Do you honestly think any Earth disease can beat the same society that have defeated death? This culture have developed stabilization serums that enable a Gorean to live for a long...long...time. Diseases are adaptable to the culture they breed in. Gorean people and environments are harder and harsher than any Earth person or environment. Earth diseases do not have near the strenth or evolution to stand any chance.

But I am also not suprised that this Story-line is coming from the Se'Healer of Ko-Ro-Ba. Which is where the mighty and always "correct" Silver sits upon his throne. Which either means this healer does NOT have permission to run this story-line or Silver has allowed it. Either way, as I said, it does not suprise me at all. By the way, I have looked over Emma Blackhawk's profile, and I see no mention of children. Perhaps it is not law in Ko-Ro-Ba for a woman physician to bear two children before being allowed to fully practice, nevermind be the city Se'Healer.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. And outside of the glowing compliment given I want to point one thing in the article. Have a read, then see my comments below.

I know you must get a lot of mail about what is wrong with Gor, and I thought it would be nice to point out something that is right. As a newcomer to this forum I have found that unless you know someone your character is often blatantly ignored in the rooms, not always, but often. Thus, when someone pays attention, even by glancing or making a remark in thoughts it is very much appreciated. One person that is outstanding at this is Jacopo Marenovo.

His RP is exceptional, the kind of RP that might have one believe that he is an elitist as so many others are; however, I have noticed that he makes note of everyone that enters the room. While not everyone can be involved in full blown RP at all times, it is this kind of action, just noticing someone, that makes the overall RP much richer and a more rewarding experience for all.

I hope people follow his example, and learn to realize that just interacting with another char does not mean you have a binding contract for life to play, but it does mean that it opens the door for everyone to have fun. Isn't that what this all is about? RP, to me, is like a woven tapestry where every thread, every layer, adds to the overall product. Acknowledging others give more life, more color to the RP, and could possibly enrich everyone's experience here.

Please, if you do use this, do not include my name. I do not want to seem as if I am sucking up to anyone; however, I do think that the actions of Jacopo mun were worthy of mention.

thank you,
A slave mun

I have noticed this as well. If you don't know someone in Gor, you sometimes have a problem getting in the door with s/ls, unless you travel to Schendi (the current Mecca). Not knocking Schendi at all. I play a citizen there and I love that the city is active and accessible and so well run people want to go there. But there is often a feeling that if you don't come with an rp group already, then you will never make any headway.

So I encourage everyone to prove me wrong. In the public rooms make that effort to play with someone you've NEVER seen before. Try and do it at least once every time you go out. I gaurantee it will open up to players to your group and give players who have never RPed and are in Gor for the first time something to be excited about.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. I'm working my way through back articles and here is one that while I've written on it before, bears the need for repeating until people get it in their heads. You cannot control the RP of others through bullying OOC tactics. Lemme repeat that. YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE RP OF OTHERS THROUGH BULLY OOC TACTICS.

The entire reason the bullies online get away with this kind of stuff is that the muns of Gor do nothing to stop it. I think there is a quote that goes, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Stand up for your Gor. I will let the letter below speak for itself.

I know the topic is becoming stagnant and most are tired of hearing about it, but I wish to share something with your readers, Torrin. Tonight, a few of us from Gortuga gathered and began role playing. I play Winnie, the farmer. We also had some... 'guests' as you may call them, one was a captured woman, another was one who walked right into the pirates clutches. We were all laughing and having a good time, even a famous lurker was there and threatening Winnie's tarsk, to eat. Others came to role play, and it was well past 4 am before everyone gave into sleep. I won't mention names, because it would not be fair to them. Not my place either, because I respect the others.

Ok, here is what really bothered me. One from KoRoBa came in and wanted to join in and have fun. No problem! We welcome everyone to come and role play. Unfortunately, this individual was being attacked in IMs from others under Rencor's thumbnail and was feeling as if he/she (won't reveal it) had to leave. We had those who have been around for a long, long, loooooong time enjoying role playing. Haha, revealed yer old people. Ok, back to this one person. It was so bad that this player stopped and left the room. They came back and then one from KoRoBa popped in and out, spying. I have that portion of the room. The player of the character, who came and *wanted* to role play, didn't, and directly told me it was because he didn't want to give Rencor mun reason to kill off his character for no valid in character reason. I call that, bullying. Yes, I know about bullies cause well, I can be one when my ire is lit. Well it is.

So, if anyone wants to come and lurk, or join in, you come on in and if the *bullies* start in, just ignore them. I am neither Disney nor am I going to stand and let some self-inflated egomanic and his goonies harass others. Been around too long for that. Time to put the dictator in his place. In the trash that will be collected this week.

Happy Gaming Everyone!
Remember, YOU control your character and what happens to them, not anyone else. I think it best to address the issue here as, it is an example of the need for the Standard of Play (Mentioned in the article "A Standard of Play" on 8-11-08).

Sir, I wish to address an issue that is something I believe we all have seen. No, I do not speak of what has been transpiring the last few weeks, but something of a different nature altogether. Lately, and I know you are aware of this, there are generally two rooms for open roleplaying in. The Kajira Waterfalls and Kajira HotSprings, basically the *generic* rooms. Oh there are city rooms as well, but we all respect them and just don't invade them. Early Sunday morning, there were several roleplaying in the kajira hotsprings. Men, free women, slaves, etc. The only open room with active roleplaying, so I chose to join in. That is why I am here, to roleplay like the rest of Gor. Within 10 minutes, a slave had a thought of how improper it was for free women to be there, it was a place for slaves and men only. While I do agree that in general there is a lot of things that transpire there, one must remember, that every single room the same things do as well. This was not the first time a slave had those thoughts. A few times a male character would threaten to collar any free woman found in the area after that.

Here is my complaint and I would enjoy reading your response and opinion. If it is the only open and active room for roleplaying, why should those of us who select to play a free woman be banned from our rights to roleplay? Just because a slave swims naked or is naked, and there to please a man, we know how to ignore it. Did something happen while I was busy in real life, and miss the letter stating my rights to roleplay were revolked? It is an open room, no city room attached to it. If someone wishes to cyber, take it to a pr where it belongs. Naked slaves are a dime a dozen here on AOL. It is up to the free woman to ignore it. But to have a though such as the slave char did, was wrong. I entered to actively roleplay, not oogle her naked swimming slave. Not to oogle naked men, but to roleplay. When did slave characters, not their muns, decide who is eligible for a room or not?

Your thoughts?

My Thoughts:
I have seen this happen maybe once, possibly twice. Most muns of slaves have the common sense NOT to be stupid like this. But then there are exceptions to every rule. I do not know the exact origins of the Kajira Rooms, they do pre-date my exsistance in Gor, but I do know what they are now. The implication that the Kajira Rooms are for kajira and Master's only is not only an ignorant thought, but also unbook. In the books about the only places Free Women were not allowed that slaves were, were Paga Dens and Ramships (Though there were times in the books women were allowed onto Ramships. Though the crew did not approve.). When a slave makes thought rp like that, ignore it. If a Free Man catches the kajira's drift and wants some alone time with the unfortunate girl, all you can really do is leave as requested, and come back with NPC Guards or PCed men from your city or camp. If Man or Slave takes the fight into the OOC realm, ask them for proof that the Kajira rooms are Man and Jira only rooms. When they stumble over themselves, or say "they've always been that way." Ask again for proof, when they fail to give it (cause there is none), tell them to go Fur in a PR and leave the women in the room alone. Or direct them to my article or myself. I would be more than happy to belittle the first person who thinks he can dictate himself in such matters, so that he doesn't have to switch rooms to fur the below average jira. Thank you for your question and as always reader comments are acceted.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. Is Gor the same as it was so many years ago.

No it isn't. Pure and simple over time something has changed. It started out that Gor was a very well done and strong RP community. It was focused on the books. Everything was correct and people did not have these OOC tussles on such a large scale. But with all good things, that image and attitude of AOLGor has erroded over the years. The truely great players leaving. The amazing writers abandoning the game. Even just the good players are begining to leave. So what we are stuck with is a mixture of good and respectable charries and muns, those who use this game to fulfill their control/sexual/lifestyle/power-trip fantasies, and those who just don't have a clue. And while that mixtures used to be balanced, we are heading towards a precipice where Gor may finally sink into the same muck as Rhydin is. We will become a phase of Online RP. So, how do we answer this? Police ourselves. This thought brings foward other questions.

2. Do we need a sense of elitism in the AOLGorean Community?

Yes and no. No in the fact that we cannot be so elite that was toss aside those who are less talented writers. Roleplaying is about personal growth as a writer and a thinker. It is about giving an outlet for your imaginative processes within the structure of the Gorean world. But there are some people who just...don't...get it. These are the people who commonly bring forward un-Gorean charries (transvestite barbarians, improperly played animal charries, 12-15 IC year old fully trained, opened, and seasoned pleasure slaves, Tuchuk pirates who try to join the Red Caste). The people that time after time after painful time are taught the error of their ways, refuse to take the lessons given to them of appropriate Gorean play.

3. Do we need a Universal Standard of Play?

Yes, without a doubt. I propose the following. Grab every city leader, Caste leader, Panther and Taluna group leader, mercenary and pirate group leader, Every Alar, Red Savage, Tahari, Plainsman tribe leader, bring forward every leader the AOLGorean Community has and sit these people down under the thought process that we will use the books to propose a Univesrsal Standard of Play. These standards will set the bar of play. And it's does not even have to be things like "No mun consent, No OOC", but rather things that establish the cultures of Gor, that set them apart. This is how a City dweller from this region acts, this is how a warrior is to be, this is how a taluna differs from a panther girl, get every "Standard" we can agree on that is backed through book information, put it in one place and have every leader at that meeting vote and agree to it in full. And have them ENFORCE this standard of play. If a person wanders in to your city who is a red casted scribe who can speak Kurri language, you ignore him and move on.

You may say, "But Torrin, people should have enough common sense not to let this happen." I say they don't, and I can prove it. If we do not make steps to mold our Gorean Community into something that is worth our time in playing in, then we will lose our play. We will become a BDSM and power-trip outlet for the stupid and the muns with control issues. And if you pick up just one book and read just one chapter you will know that is not what Gor is.

I implore the people on this mailing list, from the slave-muns, to the influential scribe-muns, to the city leaders, and peasant-muns to help me make this happen. Let us fix and heal the AOLGorean Community, bring it back to what it was, not just for our storylines, but for the sake of everyone who has, does, or will play the game we are shaping. Everyone has a legacy, and yes this is supposed to be fun and for 8 years I have played and I have cried during scenes, I have gotten off my chair and cheered at scenes, I have been moved by the play of my fellow Gorean-muns, I have enjoyed nearly every moment of my time here in Gor. And I feel anyone who has enjoyed their time playing this game, owe it to ourselves and to those who have will play in our groups to make this work. To not be the generation of Gorean Muns to let it go to the shitter on our watch. And to fix the problems we are faced with only takes alittle bit of conversation and work. And it will be fixed.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. I know abit more (Or rather I see two sides of this issue), than your normal person. Let's break this down.

1. Rencor holds a meeting- I'm not sure what happened during this meeting, but someone got their feelings hurt.

2. The RBC is contacted by the screen name XMessengerofGorX on behalf of "The Old Man" requesting a contract be taken out on Rencor, his family, and half of KRB.

3. The RBC according to their guidelines then contacts Rencor to see if he will accept the hunt and to perform the checks for validity (No crossing). Rencor then holds a "secret meeting."

4. The RBC is contacted again by the screen name XMessengerofGorX again on the behalf "The Old Man." The time to request that the contract be only for Rencor and his loyal warriors.

5. Rencor is contracted by the screen name XMessangerofGorX and immediately kills the messenger. And issues a letter which is prolly biggest bunch of IC/OOC blurring I have seen in a good long while (which I will not print but if you wish a copy email me for it).

I want to talk about a single element of the letter though. (Again if you wish the entire thing email me for it). This is Rencor addressing those he sent the letter too.

***Editor note***
In the orginal letter Rencor used <> to make OOC statements. I removes and replaced those with ( ) because it would not let me post it otherwise.

This BC Contract came at a wrong time. And here is why I got so angry over the BC Contract to Hold a Secret Meeting that did not Include DiShon Supporters.

(I know it has got to be MUN Crossing for anyone except House of DiShon to call such a Contract.)

Now lets take something into consideration. The RBC according to their guidelines shows proof of the hunt OOC, to secure permission OOC for the hunt. Why on F---ing earth did Rencor cross the RBC OOC inquiry, into IC keeping the Dishons from a meeting. I think he honestly believes we're all stupid here. And the worst part is. He'll get away with it, because his players allow it.

I will once again...once again. Advise, suggest, implore anyone of KRB or KRB Station, to vacate it. This is not a good nor healthy nor wise place to put your RP trust or your RP time.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. I have printed it here, with my comments below.

To the muns of Gor:

I ask that you keep my mun identity safe and confidential, but I would really like to see this posted somewhere that other gorean roleplayers can read it. It’s obvious you can’t send it to Silver when the man talks out of both sides of his mouth and forgets what he says from one issue to the next. I am not sure if any of you guys will post it either, but please do.

This is concerning the recent crap that Silver mun is trying to pull. There is a line. If Silver mun turns around, he will see it is about 3 passangs behind where he is standing right now. There is so much I want to say that I am not sure where to start.

In the OT edition 816 on July 30th, Silver makes the following statements (in gold) and in the OT edition 817 on August 3rd Silver makes these additional statements (in red): (As an editor note my comments are in white.)

It would seem that they laws now say if you are caught Cybering with someone who is pretending to be under age of 18 that your mun can go to Jail for Creating Child Porno. I don't make this stuff up folks, Call AOL if you don't believe me.

Legislation is currently pending to make impersonating a child on line a federal crime in all states. It matters not what forum or content that takes. Whether it be role-play or not, whether it is sexual in nature or not

For those who don't want to go to jail with "I Be Jira" you should avoid her character and mun. She's only 12.

About once a year people mistranslates the comments I make. Seems they did this over my last issue warning people that RPing of Children isn't proper. I at no time recall saying to stop RPing all kids.

It is true; he didn’t say to stop Rping all kids, he just pointed out that you should avoid those that do play children.

"Did you know that posting "ANY" pictures of children onto a Profile is illegal?" They can be fully dressed and its still illegal.

So word to the wise, don't post any children pictures period. Not yours, not no fakes. Because posting children pictures could lose you an account.

They don't want ages below 18 in our profiles any more, no pictures of children, no sexual RP between two people where 1 or both are pretending to be under 18. "This isn't Goreans doing this", some may cry. This might be true but, "its AOL and the Law Officials." We aren't ignoring books, we are obeying Real Time Laws. And if a Gamer can't accept this then they need to get Mental help.

And any sexual actions even if the other mun isn't really a Minor but simply pretending to be can be considered child Porno and someone can go to Jail. Don't forget what they keep saying on Court TV. Ignorance of the laws isn't a proper excuse.

So either take what I say with a grain of salt. Or get offended. I don't care. And if your mun ends up in jail for just cybering with a character that is under aged but the mun is an adult.

Silver had been over the top before, but he has outdone himself this time with attacking those that spoke up and pointed out his false statements. Silver is rude, nasty and dragging KoRoBa into the cesspool of Gor while he is at it.

Now, he also put in his paper about the woman on trial, Silver writes:

As of May 16, 2008, the woman who pretended to be a teenage male, who was chatting with a teenage girl months ago who ultimately committed suicide over their Internet relationship; that woman has been charged with a Federal crime for the death of this teenage girl, although the charges were reduced from the Second Degree Murder charges the girls family sought, this woman is still facing a twenty year prison sentence.

This is another classic example of Silver only telling you what he either wants you to know, or telling you all he does know, which is not the full story. The lady was charged, not because she portrayed a 16-year-old boy, but because she knowingly and willingly caused harm to a minor. She was intentionally deceiving the girl, knowing the girl had low self esteem, in an attempt to get back at her for hurting her own daughters feelings. It had nothing to do with sex or the age that she portrayed herself, she is being charged for intentional harm to a minor that resulted in the death of a minor. It was considered pre-meditated.

Now I want to clarify something about what Meira sent out. I have talked to Meira because there was something she said that didn’t make sense to me. I’m going to clarify in case it didn’t make sense to others. Meira said this:

AOL's response was helpful in clearing up some matters:

* It is NOT illegal to role play a child under the age of 18.
Sexual activity with a child character IS illegal though.

This is what those that work in the call centers say, but they do not understand the full concept of characters and muns. They do not understand the concept of roleplaying in most cases. When those in the call center think of having sex with a character under the age of 18, they are usually assuming you are referring to an actual minor having cyber sex with an actual adult.

* It is NOT illegal to have pictures of children in an AOL profile.
It is suggested that you place in your profile that it is a role playing game and that the pictures are a representation of the character you portray and not actually you or your children.

I also took this one step further, and called my local police station. I was put on the phone with Officer Courtwright. I described to him the same thing as I had talked to AOL about and he asked some questions in return. He told me that there are no laws within the state of Pennsylvania, nor any Federal laws or statutes with the Sexual Predator Acts that prohibit an adult from representing themselves as a child character in this sort of venue. He did say that other states may have different laws, but there is nothing in Pennsylvania, nor any Federal law that is being violated.

Roleplaying out sexual scenes in private rooms with anyone, so long as their mun is over the age of 18 is not illegal. It is also not considered child pornography. What we are doing when we are roleplaying is writing a fictional story. We are not all that different from Stephen King, Anne Rice or any other fictional writer. It is not considered child pornography, nor is it considered to be the corruption of a minor. If it were, Anne Rice would be serving lots of jail time right now for her entire vampire series. Armand was something like 16 when Marius seduced him! Have any of you read those scenes? These types of scenes MUST be done in private rooms though, because if you do it in a public room and a minor pops into the room and sees ANYTHING that is remotely sexual, you can be prosecuted for exposing a minor to pornography, or for the corruption of a minor.

I told someone shortly before the last two issues of the OT came out that it was no longer the OT, it had become the “KoRoBa Soapbox.” She laughed and agreed with me. Am I possibly the only one that can see past the smoke and mirrors and realize that all KoRoBa and KoRoBa Station are is Spirit of Gor all over again. How long until good old Silver falls in love with another stripper and lets KRB and KRB Station fall flat too? It is a shame because there are some great players within those SLs. Hopefully they will have the good sense to either get rid of the crazed Silver mun or leave and go somewhere else.

I am probably being harsher than I mean to come across as, but I am fed up. I am fed up with people thinking they are the new god of Gor. I am fed up with people trashing the good guys when they don’t agree with what they say.

Someone show me where Gwyn has ever done anything so horrible as to be listed in red in Silver’s paper. I bet you can’t. She is one of the most selfless muns I have ever had to work with in this game. Her contributions are innumerable. There are three Scribes that have unquestioningly contributed to our game more than probably any other people that play here. Like them or hate them, but you can’t deny what Gwyn, Meira and Jewel have done for our game.

What Silver did by kicking Colum out of KRB was nothing short of crossing. He knew the mun played CptJackGant and threw him out because he doesn’t agree with another SL of the mun. Then to make matters look even grimmer from Silver, Silver mun purposefully outted Colum mun as a female mun. There are people on Gor that I don’t like, but even so, I would not give out their personal information like that. There is someone that roleplays here with all of us that I hope to never ever see again for the rest of my life, either in roleplay or real life, but I would never announce to all of Gor that [his SN] has ED. People just need to remember the golden rule I think. That or the rule of three. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you or whatever you put out comes back to you threefold.

Thank you.

Silver is the exact thing he claims to hate. He preaches of making Gor a better place. But all he is doing...all he has done for awhile is simply make things worse. And it's gotten more and more desperate as he tries to cling to that which has given him such undeserved respect. His hateful writings. I still look in awe at his comment:

"Or you can read the OT and let Silver be your Game Master since I have the knowledge and know how."---From the OT Edition 816

Why would you let someone control your play, when he does nothing but bring down your game, your RP experience, who lies to you, stretches the truth, and only gives you praise when he thinks it's appropriate to his goals. You wouldn't. You would be STUPID too. I fear for those in KRB. I fear that one day, Silver will finally take that step off the teetering ledge he has so delicatly placed himself. And plunge not only himself, but those he RPs with into an oblivion of RP hell. Where Silver is Ubar of IC/OOC, and if you disagree with him, even in the slightest he makes you pay.

I implore those of KRB and of KRB Station to seek a better environment for their play. Silver has turned his Outlaw Times into a weapon. Nothing more than a simple weapon to spread his hateful writings, and to slander those who disagree with him. He's even gotten to the point of making snide threats to muns. I will say this, when Silver is right...he is right...when he is wrong, he is so very wrong. His Outlaw Times may have started with good intentions. But it is no longer anything but a fountain of hate.

But has anyone here noticed something that I have? This is not the first time I have spoken about Silver. Yet he has yet to say one cross word to me. It's possible, however improable that he hasn't seen the paper. Silver preys on those who he believes cannot defend themselves. People who he can crush with his writings. How does one fight such actions. Stand up to him. Take his slander in stride, and stand up to him. He is a bully, and should be treated as such. Silver says he's been around a long time. So has the people he slanders. Silver says he doesn't care about his charries, he doesn't care if they live or die. But he'll take down yours with him, which leads me to believe his charries go carry a price with him. Ruin his plans, he'll ruin you.

My suggestion...I repeat SUGGESTION to AOLGor is this. Make him a relic. Make him as useless as every wanna-be tyrant before him. That's what he wants. He wants to be respected, to be the only "truth" in Gor. But he doesn't help those who need it. He brings down those that threaten his "truth." I would suggest un-subscribing from the OT, but it's best to know what crap he is spewing. I do suggest those who are in KRB and KRB Station seek a better environment. Schendi, Jasmine, ANYWHERE but where Silver is. Give him time Silver will bury himself.

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. I do this not because I want a tattle-tale convention, but moreso so I can offer my opinions on the grey areas of our game both in the IC and OOC areas. Below is an paragraph from an email I recently received.

"If you don't mind, I would be curious to see your thoughts regarding the postings of slaves thoughts and their effect on the role play. I for one enjoy reading slaves thoughts as it gives me, as a muse, a better understanding of said character. Too, I enjoy that subtle battle of wits in the hypothetical mind of slaves. I also wouldn't mind seeing an article about accepted crossing. I'm not sure if we realize it, but there are many examples of crossings most player's do on a daily basis which are accepted. One example of this is planning a storyline. "I want my character owned by yours." This is an acceptable cross and is often a respectable cross of RP to ensure all parties involved in the RP are finding enjoyment. I think it would be an interesting topic."

And I agree. This is one of the grey-er areas of Gor. Is there such a thing as "accepted crossing"? It's a question that has plaqued us as an RP Group for a long time, but we really haven't come to a concensus about it. You have a small faction of people who believe ANY OOC placed into the game will harm and taint the game as a whole. I used to count myself among that number. There is a grouping of people who believe in the accepted crossing though to variable degrees. I personally believe that the slave "thoughts" are a form of RP play and style. It gives an extra degree to their play that most do enjoy. But as with all play there are lines that should not be crossed.

1. Hateful thoughts: Their is a large difference in hating what the free are doing, and being hateful. Let me elaborate.

::She growled as the sting of the freshly oiled whip fell across her back. She hated them, she loathed them. All she wanted was to go home, to go back her bed safe on Earth. But she knew she could not. That was clear to her. And she hated them more for it. She would make good on her escaped or die trying::

This posting in my mind is perfectly acceptable. The thing to keep in mind is our posts should read as though you were reading a book. It is how people relate to good rp. It is descriptive, yet concise to the point of the matter. Now read the next version.

::She growled as the whip hit her. She would escape, she wondered why they beat her. They were as un-Gorean as her little barbarian self. She would merely take her punishment, until they grew bored and moved on to the cliffs of the falls next to find some new slave to torture.::

This is where I see that line crossed. The post moved from talking about her hate for the free IC, and slung an insult to the mun using the "un-Gorean" reference.

2. Mun Impressions: Another line that doesn't need to be crossed, and that would keep down on OOC in rooms is expression of mun thoughts using the ::Action colons::. There is an accepted way of asking a question to the room, or objecting to something in the room. And it's with ((parenthesis)). And honestly most OOC can be handled in IMs.

3. Slave's Opinions: This is a grey area in a grey area. At what point is enough, enough. Ever had a slave deride you in thoughts to the point of you no longer wanting to play the scene. I've seen it happen before. Nothing OOC is mentioned, but to have your play picked apart in thoughts, with no way to IC defend yourself is wrong. Now it's okay to have a few snide remarks get left in thoughts. But theres a line between being acceptable and just being a bitch. 9 out of 10 slaves would not DREAM of being bitches to the free in thought or otherwise. And for those exceptions they were always, barbarians, agents of the Kur, agents of the Priest Kings, or any slave who was already under orders to do such a thing. It is pounded into a slave's head from moment one of their training, YOU MUST BE FOUND PLEASING.

4. "Please collar me": This is not an unfair OOC request to make. In fact it's an IC issue. It is always interesting in the books to see how certain slaves wrangled a master they want. Some are shy about it, feeling themselves not good enough. Others are bold and ensure the master that fits them knows their desires. I guess the point is, if you want a man to collar you, don't use thoughts. Use actions, flaunt yourself in front of him to the limits of what he shoudl deem appropriate in the current situation. If you don't know what he would think is appropriate, then you aren't ready to approach him. If you think you have done your best IC to attract his attention, then IM him and address the issue there.

So do we have to take the good with the bad? In order to get the insightful look into a slave's mind, do we have to put up with the often negative areas? Do we toss a slave's thoughts out altogether? No. I think that if we begin to police ourselves and enforce those lines that should not be crossed, the general roleplay experience would be altogether better.

Now, after having explored all that, we come to the question at hand. Is there such a thing "acceptable crossing"? Well yes. It is perfectly alright for you to set a storyline the way you want it. And to have events be planned to get the end result your require, such as the collaring of a slave to a certain man. But, that rp should not be hateful in nature. It should not sling insults to muns and their style's of play. Just because you can't be punished for your thoughts, doesn't give you the right the take them out at the knees between the colons. Then the arguement of "You can't control my RP" comes into play. To which I always respond, "Well yes, I cannot control your rp. You are free to do as you please. But I also don't have to pay you any mind at all. I don't have to let you stay within the room/group with your disruptive hateful rp that is doing nothing but hurting the groupand making yourself look childish."

It seems like this week is the week for the mantra "Police yourself."

I wish you well.

For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper. Someone sent me this letter, and I will post it in it's entirety but I will bring forward a point at the end.

"I feel that I must say some words on behalf of the chars and muns of the isle of Gortuga. Recently in the Outlaw times a criticism of the island has occurred. Criticism can be handled but the blatant accusations of this person needs to be dealt with. Silver Espirit has accused the island of being Disney.Well lets see...pirates, buccaneers, and privateers are all words used to describe people who use force on the water to take what they want from another vessel. The use of movie pictures and sometimes the movie itself is used to begin a story line. The name of Gortuga is that just a name. It was never the intention of this group to ever bring a movie completely to Gor. This group has been trashed without anyone from the Outlaw times ever role playing with any of us. Jack of the movie never held an island. Jack of the movie never mated. Jack of the role play is just as flippant as Jack of the movie but he is also doing his best to provide for those of his island. The role play for this island was for fun. It was talked about throughout the building process and everyone with the island at the time agreed that we would play this for fun with no. repeat no back biting or mun trash talk. We as a group so far have accomplished this. Because of this story line we have been accused of bringing talking skeletons and ghosts and what not to Gor. I myself have not seen one. Again someone saying what they will because they just don't know. The real kicker to the problem is that we were asked to change our story line the names of our chars and the name of our island because someone outside the group demanded it. The mun of Jack has had another of his chars thrown out of the City of Koroba because of this story line. The char that was in Koroba has nothing to do with Gortuga island. As I see it that is clearly mun crossing. Personally I run my char as I see fit. I am having fun with this role play as I have not had in a very long time. I don't ask that you agree with all that I do but I do ask to have all the information. I have been with this story line almost from conception. I have never role played with Rencor Hawk or Silver Espirit. These two char names have accused us of having no talent for role play or no imagination. Again I have to say where are they that they can make these accusations. So far since the Outlaw times has started with the trash talk I have received nothing but praise for Gortuga and the play that has been going on. We invite those who are willing to join us to come and experience a positive role play not the petty trash talk that is going on else where.... Just remember we are pirates *grins* Tsi Pae 1st mate Plunderers Greed"

Alright see the highlighted areas. That's what I want to address. The issue of weither or not they shouldn't play within the "realm" of Gor matters very little. I am a book thumper as well, and weither or not they should be "allowed" to play with "us" is an issue to it's own. But the real disturbing issue lies with Silver's hypocrisy concening the s/l. They apparently keep to themselves and play their game, and do not force themselves on anyone. For Silver to speak so high and mightly about himself, then go and cross and axe the charrie from KoRoBa that had nothing to do with the offending s/l is indeed crossing. I know he's been around for awhile, but for a guy who is consistantly wrong about alot of things, you'd think he'd shut up and leave people alone. Maybe mighty Silver should revise the statement:

"Or you can read the OT and let Silver be your Game Master since I have the knowledge and know how."---From the OT Edition 816

The only thing you know is how to spew hate whenever the bug crawls in your rear. People for the vast majority don't read your articles for the educational value, but for the entertainment of seeing who Silver trashes this week. You are pathetic. You sit about and critique other's play while your own city is as backwards as any other. And by the way, i've seen the logs of some of the play in almighty KoRoBa, and I have to say I was unimpressed. Police youself before straying elsewhere.

I wish you well. For tomorrow is another day.

Mun of Torrin

(Also, I am accepting articles to be published in the paper.
